W-F third at Akey Duals

Two Weyauwega-Fremont wrestlers won individual championships Dec. 8 at the 23rd annual Akey Duals in Weyauwega.

Oliver Radtke went 5-0 to win the 120-pound championship, while Brandon Loehrke posted a 5-0 mark at 170.

The Indians also fell to Bonduel Dec. 6 in a Central Wisconsin Conference dual meet.

Stratford won the six-team tournament for the second year in a row by defeating Chilton 39-37 in the championship match.

W-F placed third at 3-2. The Indians fell to Chilton 66-7 and Stratford 60-21 in the first two rounds, but regrouped with wins over Fox Valley Lutheran (54-17) Ripon (39-34) and Waupaca (41-32) to improve to 4-3 in dual meets.

“We set our goal to place in the top three as a team and we accomplished that,” coach Tim Potratz said. “All 18 boys on the team wrestled in the varsity lineup at some point during the day to contribute to the team’s success. We have already shown improvement as a team from the first week of the season.”

Trevor Potratz placed second at 160 with a 3-0 record, while Andy Pribbernow (152) and Nathan Stelzner (220) placed third. Isaac Danke, Bailey Balistreire, Tre Blohm and Andy Bork each won a pair of matches, while Nick Thomas came off of the bench with a sore knee to seal the victory over Ripon with a win by decision.

The Bears won all but two of the meet’s 14 matches. Potratz pinned Eric Bergsbaken in 1:37 at 160, while Andy Bork handed Kyle Hauschultz a 9-8 overtime loss at 285.

“Bonduel has a tough team this year and really overpowered us in most of the matches,” Potratz said.

Five of Bonduel’s wins came by pin.

W-F will host Markesan tonight (Thursday, Dec. 13) in a nonconference dual, with varsity matches set to start at 7 p.m.
