It took two extra periods of play, but the Bulldogs were able to earn a hard-fought win over the Shawano Hawks on Friday, Dec. 14.
Shawano led 17-10 after one quarter and 33-21 at halftime.
The Hawks added to their lead by outscoring New London 14-13 in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs finally got their offense on track in the fourth quarter, exploding for 28 points. Shawano scored 15 in the period, and the teams were tied at the end of the fourth quarter.
In the first overtime period, both teams scored six points, sending the game to double overtime. Chris Steingraber’s 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime period kept the Bulldogs’ hopes alive.
New London outscored Shawano 9-3 in the second overtime period to earn the 77-71 win.
Steingraber led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Jake Pinch scored 21. Luke Listle added 12 for New London.
Ryan Wolf and Devon Garbers both scored nine, while Jared Thebo added two and Jake Thomas scored one.
The Bulldogs made 22 of 57 shots (38.6 percent) and 10 of 22 3-point shots (45.5 percent). The team made 23 of 42 free throws (54.8 percent).
