Wolves fall to Pacelli, Bonduel

The Manawa boys’ basketball team took to the road last week traveling to Bonduel and Pacelli. Unfortunately the team returned home with two games in the loss column.

Pacelli 61, Manawa 34

The Wolves traveled to Pacelli on Friday, Dec. 14 and came out on the short end of the game, falling 61-34. The Wolves kept it close in the first quarter, trailing by only two at the end of the quarter. The second quarter wasn’t as kind as they were outscored by 16 points. They headed into the locker room at halftime down by 18 points.

The second half saw the Wolves cut the lead to 13 a couple of times, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Wesley Krauss led the team with 12 points, including hitting two out of five three-pointers. Austin Dean chipped in with seven points, while Brandon Bartel added six points.

Alex Thompson led the team in rebounding with seven boards.

Bonduel 68, Manawa 49

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Manawa traveled to Bonduel and dropped the game 68-49.

Bonduel pulled out to a quick lead outscoring the Wolves 19-8 in the first quarter. The Wolves increased their scoring output to 15 points in the second quarter, but the Bears also increased their scoring output in the quarter to 24 points. At the half the Wolves trailed 43-23.

The Wolves put together a strong third quarter, outscoring the Bears 16-12 in the quarter. They also held strong in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Krauss again led the way with 16 points. Dean added 11 points, while Bartel contributed six points.

Krauss led the team with three steals.

Head coach Karl Morrin said the team is giving it everything they have and that the team is getting better.

The team is idle until the Almond-Bancroft Tournament, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 27-28.
