Boys rebound from buzzer-beating loss

Weyauwega-Fremont’s boys’ basketball team won the consolation game of the Wrightstown Tournament Dec. 28 with a 59-46 win over Southern Door.

The Indians also fell to Menominee, Mich., Dec. 27 in the opening round of the four-team tournament.

The Indians outscored the Eagles 24-12 in the fourth quarter.

W-F led 10-9 after one quarter, 25-24 at halftime and 35-34 after three quarters.

Bryce Behn led W-F with 21 points, while Trevor Fitzpatrick added 10 and Lincoln Van Cuick and Aaron Schroeder chipped in with eight each.

Menominee 63, W-F 62

Jared Rivard’s three-pointer – his fifth of the game – in the final seconds lifted the Maroons over the Indians.

It was Menominee’s first lead of the game after the Indians had led by as many as 15 points.

W-F led 18-14 after one quarter and 31-19 at halftime, but Menominee outscored the Indians 27-18 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 49-46 heading into the fourth quarter.

Van Cuick led the Indians with 17 points, while Behn finished with 11 and Fitzpatrick and Aaron Schroeder added 10 each.

The Indians will return to Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at home against Stevens Point Pacelli before heading to Iola Tuesday, Jan. 8, to face the Thunderbirds in another CWC-8 matchup.
