New London girls win two more games

The New London girls’ basketball team added two more wins to its win streak. The Lady Bulldogs downed Freedom 44-21 on Friday, Dec. 28. A week earlier, they beat Pulaski 59-37.

New London 44, Freedom 21

It didn’t take long for the New London to take control of the game against Freedom on. New London’s stifling defense held Freedom scoreless for much of the first quarter.

Freedom finally got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter, but when the quarter ended New London held a 14-2 lead. It was more of the same New London defense in the second quarter, as Freedom mustered only three points. When the buzzer sounded to end the first half, New London held a 26-5 lead.

Brenna Heise was dominant in the first half, scoring 18 of her 22 points in the half.

The two teams played close to even in the third quarter as New London outscored Freedom 13-10 in the quarter. There wasn’t much offense for either team in the fourth quarter with New London cruising to a 44-21 win.

Heise led all scorers with 22 points. Lexi Roland scored seven points, while Cambria Fitzgerald and Amber Pethke each chipped in with four points.

New London 59, Pulaski 37

Pulaski was up to the challenge in the first quarter when traveled to New London to take on the Lady Bulldogs. Pulaski scored 14 points in the first quarter, and led 14-13 heading into the second quarter.

New London battled back outscoring Pulaski 12-7 in the second quarter to lead at halftime 25-21.

The second half was all New London, as they outscored Pulaski in the half 34-16.

Heise led New London with 18 points.

The wins put New London at 7-0 this season. New London will host Seymour, Friday, Jan. 4.
