Subha Rajan, MD, has found what she was looking for at ThedaCare Physicians-New London.
“I could be a small town doctor doing everything,” said Dr. Rajan, who started at the practice in September. “The New London job was really what I was looking for. It kind of fit into my family needs and my career needs.”
Dr. Rajan serves patients as a board-certified family medicine physician, with a special interest in women’s health and maternity care. Dr. Rajan pursued advanced medical training in surgical, high-risk and other aspects of pregnancy after discovering her passion for obstetrics. She received her medical degree from Calicut Medical College in India and earned her master’s degrees in clinical tropical medicine and public health at Mahidol University of Bangkok.
In Bangkok, Dr. Rajan was a physician at a refugee center, where she cared for mostly women and children.
“That’s why I took up the training in obstetrics,” said Dr. Rajan, who speaks four languages. “I think if you keep the women healthy, the whole family is going to be healthy.”
Dr. Rajan completed her residency and fellowship training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where she was named chief resident and outstanding graduate of the year.
She was drawn to the New London community, where she has felt welcomed.
“I think I am able to tap the full potential of a family medicine doctor,” she said. “You have to be in a rural area where you have to manage everything.”
Dr. Rajan will focus on prevention and to promote health with her patients in New London.
“My goal would be healthy families rather than looking at individual health,” she said, noting that with health care costs rising, “prevention is the way to go. If you get healthy families, you get a healthy community.”
Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association. She is certified in advanced cardiac and obstetrics life support as well as neonatal resuscitation.
