The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team saved the best in its first of two Central Wisconsin 8 Conference matchups this season with Manawa.
Connor Lodewegen sent the teams into overtime tied at 48-48 with a three-pointer with less than 3 seconds on the clock and the Thunderbirds then made 13 of 18 free throws in the overtime period to pick up a 63-53 win over the Wolves.
I-S led 9-8 after one quarter, but the Wolves came back in the second to take a 24-21 halftime lead. Manawa added to its lead with a 13-10 advantage in the third quarter, but the T-Birds returned the favor by outscoring the home team 17-11 in the fourth and 15-5 in the four-minute overtime period.
Lodewegen led all scorers with 20 points, while Mike Blum added 10. Wesley Krauss led Manawa with 19.
The T-Birds hosted Weyauwega-Fremont Jan. 8 and will head to Bonduel Friday, Jan. 11, for a conference game with the Bears.
