Truckers tame Tigers, crush Comets

A strong first half helped the Trucker varsity basketball team earn a 65-53 win over the Ripon Tigers on Thursday, Jan. 3.

Clintonville led 13-12 after one quarter and 38-28 at halftime. The Truckers outscored the Tigers 13-10 in the third quarter. Ripon outscored Clintonville 15-14 in the final frame.

Aaron Ziemer led Clintonville with 25 points, while Jansen Van Daalwyk scored 12. Jesse Brauer added nine, Nathaniel Krueger scored seven, John Schultz scored six, Adam Weatherwax added four, and Andy Schmidt scored two.

The Truckers made 23 of 46 shots (50 percent) and 13 of 25 from 3-point range (52 percent). Clintonville made 6 of 14 free throws (42 percent).

The Truckers grabbed 24 rebounds, with five on the offensive end of the floor. The team had four steals, one block, and eight turnovers.

Waupaca 33

The Waupaca Comets were no match for the Trucker boys varsity basketball team on Saturday, Jan. 5. The teams met in a game rescheduled due to poor weather conditions on Dec. 20, and Clintonville rolled to a 61-33 win.

The Truckers jumped out to a 16-6 lead after one quarter and led 34-16 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Clintonville outscored Waupaca 14-13, and the Truckers closed the game out by outscoring Waupaca 13-4 in the final frame.

Brauer scored 18 points to lead Clintonville, while Ziemer added 13. Krueger added nine, Van Daalwyk scored eight, Schultz added seven, Schmidt scored three, Turner Doornink added two, and Weatherwax scored one.

Clintonville made 19 of 43 shots (44 percent) and 8 of 21 from 3-point range (38 percent). The Truckers made 15 of 22 free throws (68 percent).

Clintonville pulled down 24 rebounds, with nine coming on the offensive end of the court. The team had 12 assists, 14 steals, one block, eight turnovers, and 11 deflections.

The Truckers host Weyauwega-Fremont on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 7:15 p.m.
