Wohlt, Janet Louise, (Petersen)

Janet L. Wohlt, age 95, of Weyauwega, WI passed away peacefully on January 10, 2013, in Appleton.

She was born on July 25, 1917, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruby (Holman) Petersen. March 1, 1941, she married Ray Wohlt of Fremont in Parfreyville, WI. A lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in Weyauwega, Janet was also active in her local community. Her father owned the Baldwin Creamery (now the site of the Dairy Bar). After graduating from the Oshkosh Teacher’s College, she taught in a one-room school house, and also substitute-taught at the Weyauwega Elementary School. For twenty years, she drove a school bus for the Weyauwega-Fremont School District, and later served as a Senior Care Volunteer. As a young woman she played half-court basketball and loved to swim and ice-skate. She regularly played golf for many years. Janet was a loyal friend, devoted wife, and a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed being surrounded by family. Many fondly remember the warmth and laughter of the Wohlt home, an English Tudor house built by her parents, where she lived for 87 years. It was a favorite gathering place for her extended clan. Her cheerful kitchen hosted many coffee klatsches, and produced innumerable delicious meals, pies and gingersnaps, as well as the occasional Old-Fashioned.

Survivors include two daughters, Ane (Wayne) Gardner, Port Aransas, TX; Alice (Tom) Dretzka, Green Bay; two sons, Jack Wohlt (Sharon Lankford), Fremont; Nick (Janice) Wohlt, Weyauwega; one sister-in-law, Florence Wohlt, Fremont; ten grandchildren: Linda(Rick) Gardner Phillips, Robert(Anna) Gardner, Todd(Julie) Wohlt, Troy(Kathy) Wohlt, Summer(Brian) Frame, Rebecca(Pete) Schomin, Matthew(Carrie) Wohlt, Jed(Julia) Wohlt, Sarah(Mike) Masias and Jon(Heather) Dretzka and twenty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, three sisters, Alice Blodgett, Marian Tremaine, and Ruth Pearson; and one brother, Charles Petersen.
