John Jones, 81, of Waupaca, formerly of King died Saturday January 12th at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca following a short illness.
He was born June 15, 1931, son of the late John Paul Jones and Myrtle (Claussen) Jones. John graduated from Waupaca High School. Following high school he joined the US Air Force where he excelled in service and became a Combat Crew Training Instructor. In December 1951 he married Joan Robinson. They had one son, John Paul Jones III, “Butch”. Butch preceded his father in death in 1997. Joan preceded John in death in 2007. John had a lifelong fascination and interest in aviation and pursued his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed multiple EAA conventions and his favorite attraction was always the B 29, the model he had served on while in the Air Force. John was employed for many years as an Operating Engineer at the power plant at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. John was also a talented artist, an interest he cultivated in his retirement. His art work became treasures, especially to his family and friends. John was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. John leaves behind many friends, especially the community on Otter Drive in King.
He is survived by his brother, Daniel (Sharon) Jones of Neenah; his sister, Ruth Laughlin of Menasha, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. John will be deeply missed by family and friends. He was further preceded in death by three siblings, David Jones of Alaska, Lollie Karpinski of Neenah, and Deborah Thompson of King.
Per John’s request there will be no formal service but a private celebration of Johns’ life will be held at a future date. Remains will be interred in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI assisted the family with arrangements. The family wishes to thank the medical and nursing staff of Riverside Medical Center for their kind compassionate care.
