Mrs. Laura J. Achten, age 89, of the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, formerly of Scandinavia and Kaukauna died Saturday, January 19, 2013.

Mrs. Laura J. Achten, age 89, of the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, formerly of Scandinavia and Kaukauna died Saturday, January 19, 2013.

Laura was born in Freedom, Wisconsin on December 29, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ardene (Van Hoof) Green. Laura married James P. Achten on Oct 8, 1942 at St. Nicholas Church in Freedom. In her earlier years, Laura worked as a secretary at the St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. She enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, traveling, golfing, music, flowers, art and reading.
She is survived by: her husband, James Achten of King; sons: Randy (Judy) Achten of Dallas, Terry (Barb) Achten of Waupaca, Mike Achten of Belleville; daughters: Mary (Paul Dahlen) Booth of Amherst Jct., Renee (Rich Bickle Jr.) Achten of Madison; grandchildren: Brian Achten of Austin, Jill (Rick) Russell of Dallas, Zachary (Angela) Achten of Waupaca, Ben (Lucy Borntrager) Achten of Waupaca, Gabe (Stephanie) Achten of Madison, Elissa (Stefan) Stults of Waupaca, Anna Achten of Madison, Tamyka (Shane) Smith of New York; great grandchildren: Ashton and Casey Russell, Endeavor and Ethan Achten, Lily and Logan Achten, Martina and Piper Smith; brother, Melvin (Loretta) Green of Kaukauna; sisters: Agnes Nolan of De Pere, Marion (Merle) Van Handel of Green Bay and sister-in-law, Rita Green of Sun City, CA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Rieter; brother, Harvey Green and brother-in-law, Bob Nolan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, Feb 5, at 11:00 AM at the Wisconsin Veterans Home-Main Chapel, King. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 10-11 AM. Register Book and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.voiefuneralhome.com Voie Funeral Home, Iola.
