Bulldogs fall to Hortoville, beat L-C in OT

It was an up and down week for the New London boys’ basketball team.

They won in overtime over Luxemburg-Casco, and fell later in the week to Hortonville.

Hortonville 63, New London 33

New London hosted Hortonville on Thursday, Jan. 24 and was a gracious host. Hortonville jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the first quarter. It got worse for New London in second quarter as they were outscored by Hortonville 22-8. Heading into halftime the score was 32-14.

New London held tough in the third quarter and was outscored by only four points. Outscored 17-9 in the final quarter sealed the 63-33 loss for the Bulldogs.

Chris Steingraber led New London in scoring with seven points, while Caleb Chmielewski added six points.

New London 63, Luxemburg-Casco 56

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start taking a 16-12 lead in the first quarter. Luxemburg battled back in the second quarter to pull to within one point at halftime. The score was 28-27 at halftime.

Both teams had trouble scoring in the third quarter, with Luxemburg outscoring New London 8-7.

With the teams tied entering the fourth quarter, both offenses were on fire as each team scored 16 points in the quarter to send the game into overtime.

New London put up 12 points in overtime, while Luxemburg managed only five points. When the final buzzer sounded, the Bulldogs had given the home fans a 63-56 victory.

Steingraber led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Jacob Pinch and Ryan Wolf added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
