Dance team returning to state

Waupaca High School’s dance team is no stranger to the state cheer/pom competition.

This year is no exception, as the team placed first in the Jazz Division and second in the Pom Division Jan. 26 at a regional competition at D.C. Everest High School in Schofield.

As a result, the squad, coached by Amy Marcom, is headed to the state competition, to be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse. The team will perform its Pom routine at 4 p.m. and its Jazz routine at 7:19 p.m.

Spectators unable to make it to La Crosse can welcome the team back to Waupaca Monday, Feb. 4, at the school.

“For the first time ever, we are having a post-state rally at 7:30 p.m.,” Marcom said. “We will be dancing both routines and the middle school team will be dancing their routines. We are inviting the community to come support us.”

Team members include seniors Becca Reeves, Kika Udoni, Emma Kelley and Haley Johnson; juniors Courtney Bloom, McKenna Gustke, Aubrey Schroeder, Courtney Jungers, Zoe Minehart and Abby Paynter; sophomores Diana Chu, Emily Cummings, Alexa Johnson and Kelsie Krawczyk; and freshmen Brenna Neumann, Abby Stone, Kelsey Klismet, Cheyenne Bennett, Kira Mielke, Brooklyn Rohloff, Madison Hansen, Juli Reynolds, Nikky Weise and Claire Jungers.
