Smith, Elizabeth Lindsay

Elizabeth (Liz) Lindsay Smith, of Manawa, age 87, entered into Eternal life on Wednesday January 30, 2013 at New London Family Medical Center.

She was born on July 5th, 1925 in New London, Wisconsin to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Owens) Lindsay. She graduated from Little Wolf High School with the class of 1943. She received a bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University Appleton, Wisconsin in 1947. She was the third of the three Lindsay daughters to become a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She was united in marriage to Leland Smith on August 20, 1949, in Manawa, Wisconsin. She worked as a homemaker and farmer before working at area phone companies, Trade Winds and various banks in the area. She retired in 1990. Liz was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and member of the choir in Manawa. She enjoyed her home, the beauty of her yard and hosting family events. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, quilting, gardening and most of all spending time with her family.

Liz is survived by her children: Jennifer Zienty, Washburn; Jane (Brian) Christoffel, Milwaukee; Lieca (James) Secard, Manawa; Tom (Merrijo) Smith, Manawa; ten grandchildren: Stefani (Chad) Schnyder, Freeport, Maine; Kara (Nick) Weaver, Madison; Josh Smith, Manawa; Peter Zienty, Washburn; Jessica (Ben) Henderson, Dubuque, Iowa; Ryan Smith, Kaukauna, Lindsay (Dan Kassis) Secard, Fitchburg; Anna (John Eller) Zienty, Hayward; Andy (Libby Bragee) Secard, Hixton; Kymberlee (Kyle Tessen) Smith, Manawa; six great grandchildren: Hannah, Grace and Cooper Schnyder, Freeport Maine; Abby, Sarah and Olivia Weaver, Madison. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Arlene (Honey) Eger, De Pere and Arla Jean and Jerry Petrie, Lincoln, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her husband Leland, grandson Brent Secard, son-in-law Larry Zienty, two sisters Kathryn (Kay) and George Hall and Jane and Tom Lindow.

The funeral service for Elizabeth will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 12 Noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa with Pastor Vilas Mazemke officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9am until the time of service. Burial will be in the Little Wolf Cemetery. The family would like to extend their thanks to the New London Family Medical Center staff and Manawa Community Nursing Center who were involved in Elizabeth’s care.
