Historical society to meet in Fremont

The Fremont Area Historical Society will meet Monday, March 18 at the new Fremont Town Hall, located east of the village on State Highway 96.

The historical society will have its business meeting at 6 p.m., followed by a program at 7 p.m.

The program will be the first in a series called “Know About the History the Historical Society Represents.”

The public is invited to tell their stories and talk about their memories.

The series will start with a look at the east side of Fremont, one block at a time.

The first program will be about the block from the corner of State Highway 96/110 to County Trunk H.

That block includes the Silver Field Cheese Factory, Farmers State Bank, the Citgo filling station, the former Hartfiel Farm, Fireside Tap, the school, the cemetery and the bait shop.

The purpose of the series is to learn more about the area’s history.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring pictures, memory books and newspaper articles.
