Waupaca Schools bring home trophies from State Chess Tournament

Students from Waupaca High School and Middle School competed at the State Chess Tournament at UW-Oshkosh this past weekend.
The high school entered two varsity teams. The A Team took 3rd place in Division 2.
The team went 3-2, defeating Milwaukee Riverside 40-0, losing to Fond du Lac Springs, 9-31, defeating Nekoosa 21-19, losing to Hartford 17-23 and defeating New Berlin West 31-9. The University School of Milwaukee went 5-0 and took 1st place, while Kewaskum went 4-1 and finished 2nd. Alex Librande, Kyle Weir and Cameron Calderon all earned medalist honors. Waupaca’s B team went 2-3 in Division 3 and finished in 8th place with Bret Nelson, Jacob Hobson, and Bradley Cooper all earning medals.
The Middle School Chess Team finished 4th in a field of more than twenty schools at the State Tournament this weekend at UW Oshkosh. Brookfield took 1st, Jefferson MS of Madison took 3nd and GReen Bay Catholic Schools took 3rd. You will have a very nice trophy for your case!

Will Johnson, Ryan Hemmila and Caleb Roggenbauer all took home medals. Ian Mast, Sean Riley McKIbben, Drake & Kylie Hiddemen, Ryan Pio, Isabella Elandt, Eugene Pliska and Dante St Thomas also competed for WMS
