WHS SADD hosts ‘Hats on for Heroes’

Waupaca High School’s SADD chapter hosted “Hats on for Heroes” Friday, March 8.

The event raised funds for the American Red Cross. Students paid $1 to wear a hat for the day.

The event was also hosted at Chain O’ Lakes Elementary School.

All the funds from various Heroes functions throughout Waupaca, Waushara, Green Lake and Marquette counties will be used for Local Disaster Relief and Service to the Armed Forces.

The most common disasters are residential fires.

Every nine minutes in the United States, a Red Cross Disaster Action Team responds to a fire.

Volunteers provide temporary shelter, food, clothing, shoes, bedding, linens and personal hygiene items. They can facilitate the replacement of prescription drugs and glasses. Financial support from the community makes the Red Cross’s disaster relief services possible.

New with Heroes 2013 is the donor choice of service to the armed forces. The Red Cross helps relay emergency messages to service members, volunteers at VA hospitals, provides emergency financial assistance and helps service members arrive home for funerals or births.
