Is it only gun owners who have rights?

It appears that the NRA, its members, the small arms industry are all concerned at current attempts at some common sense control.

Apparently school children, worshipers and entertainment fans do not have rights, or at least a lesser grade of rights than the gun owner has.

I believe the Second Amendment refers to owning a firearm in a well-regulated militia. Each state has a well regulated National Guard.

After listening to NRA propaganda, one would think they are preparing to defend against a possible attack by the United States Army.

The NRA is an advocate for the arms industry, who in turn provides financial campaign assistance to legislators who support NRA policy.

Last week, an NRA spokesman indicated that they were keeping close watch on how elected representatives voted on the gun control bill.

A veiled threat to Republican legislators that they would lose the support of the NRA and their lobbyists in future re-election campaign and perhaps face vigorous opposition instead, if they supported further gun control.

The Republican senators and representatives, along with a handful of weak-kneed Democrats have demonstrated their allegiance to the NRA.

The NRA is composed of about 3.9 million members or less than 1.4 percent of the nation population.

Still they are denying 90 percent of the population the right to have legislation they dearly want.

They do this by simply telling the Republican legislators how to vote on any legislation.

This bill does not prevent responsible citizens from buying a gun, only that the buyer submits to a background check.

If the buyer is a felon, has a history of subversive activity or is mentally incompetent, then a background check will show it and the individual will be denied the purchase.

Large magazines and automatic weapons are not needed for hunting or target practice.

If only one life is saved due to background checks, it is easily worth this simple and badly needed legislation.

It is disheartening and sad to learn how corrupt our political system has become.

There is only one way to stop it.

Learn how your senator or representative voted on gun control and vote to change his occupation.
