Creative Expressions Night in Waupaca

Waupaca Learning Center’s Creative Expressions Night will have a new format when it is held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7.

Creative Expressions Night has been held at the school for more than 20 years.

In the past, events were scattered throughout the building.

This year, Creative Expressions Night will be held in a central location – in the school’s commons and gym.

It is being organized by Nancy Grams and Karin Rutz, the school’s two music teachers, and by Jim Lang and Matt Lawniczak, WLC’s two art teachers.

The evening will showcase the creativity of the students.

“With art, every student will be represented with a piece of artwork. Some will be choosing their favorite piece, while other classes will show a particular piece they all did,” Lang said.

Lawniczak said the artwork will be shown in the commons, both on the walls and on dividers.

During the art show, students who take private music lessons will be playing piano, violin and guitar, Rutz said.

In the gym, every grade level will have a small performance, Grams said.

In addition, the school’s choir will perform several selections.

“The gym will have scheduled times, so we want parents to be aware of the schedules,” Lawniczak said. “In between, they can walk through the commons and see their children’s work.”

Parents will be receiving a music schedule.

Rutz said parent volunteers will serve as door monitors outside the gym, so people do not walk into the gym in the middle of performances.

Volunteers – parents and grandparents of WLC students – are needed during the school day on May 7.

Grams said the volunteers will help set everything up for Creative Expressions Night.

Volunteers should report to the school’s main office to receive their assignments.

The teachers said Creative Expressions Night will be two hours of activities.

Grams said all the things families will see that night are things the students have beee doing in the classroom this school year.

“I like the idea that we’re showcasing the kids more,” Lawniczak said.

A Scholastic Book Fair will also take place that evening.
