The Waupaca High School Instrumental Music department will honor 13 graduating band members on Tuesday, May 7.
On that evening, they will take the stage for their last time in the Performing Arts Center after being together as a group since sixth grade.
The Senior Tribute Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge.
The program will feature the Concert Band, Percussion Ensembles and Wind Ensemble under the direction
of Kira Morrissey, student teacher Mike Kowbel, John Kelley and Mark Kryshak.
Under Morrissey’s direction, the Concert Band will present “Rain,” a work with a great deal of expressiveness which paints a picture of a quiet rainfall with distant rolling thunder by Brian Balmages.
The band will also present “Into the Clouds” under the direction of Kowbel. Written by Richard Saucedo, it is the culmination of the composer’s lifelong dream to become a licensed pilot and one day fly into the clouds.
The middle portion of the program will feature the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble percussion groups directed by John Kelley, a long-time Waupaca resident and professional percussionist who works with students weekly throughout the school year.
The Wind Ensemble will feature a selection form a Hollywood film score which will get hearts pounding, ending with a soul-stirring climax which will leave audience members breathless.
The ensemble, under the direction of Kowbel, will perform the original theme song from the 1938 Bugs Bunny cartoon titled “Powerhouse.” Awards for the most outstanding senior band members, Solo and Ensemble and other recognitions will also be presented during the program.
