Leland “Lee” Rasmussen, 75, passed away peacefully at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Leland received extraordinary care and support during the last month of his life from the staff at Agnesian Healthcare Hospice, and for over a year from Above and Beyond Care Solutions.
Leland was born on November 26, 1937, in King, Wisconsin, the son of the late James and Margaret (nee Petersen) Rasmussen. Leland graduated from Barton School in 1951, and from Waupaca High School in 1955. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from September, 1956 through September, 1959. Leland came to Fond du Lac in 1964. He retired in July, 2007, after working 41 1/2 years at Badger Soft Water, Inc., serving as owner/operator for a number of those years. Leland was a member of Church Of Our Saviour for many years where he served as an usher, and participated in Men’s Dartball. Over the years, Leland had been a member of the Wisconsin Water Quality Association, the Packerland Region Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, the Fond De Vette’s Corvette Club, the Fond du Lac Running Club, and the Holyland Snowflyers. Leland was a man of many interests including deer hunting, running, bicycling, golf, dancing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, playing dartball, gardening, and woodworking. He was a “Chevy Guy” who enjoyed his Corvettes and ’66 Impala Super Sport. He had a deep appreciation of nature. Leland was a Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan, and truly enjoyed playing 5ive Straight.
Above all, Leland was a man of integrity, and a man of strong faith. He was a kind, humble man who respected people, and had a strong sense of fairness and responsibility. Leland was the kind of man described by Robert Louis Stevenson “who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.”
Leland is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Koziol); his children, Sheila Good, Pamela (Dominic) Frecentese, and Jonathan Rasmussen; his grandchildren, Austin and Tanner Good, and Tori, Nick, and Grace Frecentese; his stepdaughters, Jennifer Chamberlain, Alison Chamberlain, and Jill (Daniel) Barker; and his step-granddaughters, Abigail and Olivia Barker; and a special cousin, Dick (Ann) Rasmussen; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald.
