Donations needed to help Guatemala

The Iola-Scandinavia Spanish Club seeks help in a humanitarian effort to help school children.

A total of 27 students and five adults will travel to Guatemala in June to explore the country, to meet the people and to practice the Spanish language first-hand.

As part of the trip, the group will also have the opportunity to make goodwill offerings to those less fortunate in both Guatemala and Belize.

One stop will be at “Semillero Mi Ángel Guardián,” a non-profit after-school program for children of single parents. The program is in need of school supplies, toiletries and children’s size underwear and socks.

In Belize, the I-S group will visit the Santa Elena Public School. School supplies, small toys and sports items are needed, along with books for 40 teachers.

The books are titled “What Great Teachers Do Differently” and “FISH.” The cost per gently-used book is about $10.

Monetary donations or supplies can be dropped off at the I-S High School office during regular school hours through Wednesday, June 1.
