Schumacher, Martin J.

Martin J. Schumacher, age 73 passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013, at New London Family Medical Center surrounded by his loving family, following a short battle with cancer.

Marty was born on March 7, 1940, in Appleton son of William and Delia (DeCoster) Schumacher. In October of 1989, he was united in marriage to Esther M. Schmit in Las Vegas. He appreciated a good day’s work and was the sole proprietor of Hillside Salvage and Repair of New London and also worked for WE Energies as head mechanic, retiring in 2000. Marty loved riding his Harley and was a lifetime member of Harley Classic Riders and also the Wolf River Men’s Club. He loved fishing, especially with his sons and spent many hours on the Mississippi and trips to Canada. Marty also loved hunting and spending time at Deer Camp with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with Esther and friends, which included trips to Branson and Jamaica. He loved to socialize at Huckleberry Acres, Bean City, and Hunters and you could always find Marty in his shop with his dogs, Tuffy and Tiger. He was also a member of the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London.
Marty is survived by his wife Esther; his children: Willy (Laurie) Schumacher, Manawa; children, Jessica, Taylor, Jamie and Darcie; Jerry Schumacher (special friend, June Otto) Weyauwega; children, Jordan (Jess), Bryan (Melissa); Robert (Jackie) Schumacher, New London; children, Shawn, Lisa (Shane); Al (Mary) Schumacher, Weyauwega; children, Corey (friend Mindy), Brad and Melissa. His mother Delia; three sisters, Delores (Dan) Gottschalk, Lakewood; Carol (Mike) Glodowski, Woodlawn, VA; and Patti (William) Hutter, Ellsworth; Gayanne the mother of his sons, 17 great grandchildren and also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, a brother Al, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral Mass for Marty will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London with Fr. Joseph Irudamoney officiating. Visitation will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and also at the church Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A special party was planned for Sunday May 19th for Marty at Huckleberry Acres, which we still plan to have in his memory at 12 Noon. The family would like to thank his visiting Nurse Jenny, UW Madison, Dr. Kohl and staff and also Chaplin K.C. Schuler for all the care and concern you gave to Marty.
