LWHS students learn about hunger

The Marketing students at Little Wolf High School recently participated in a project-based learning experience, “Child Hunger Ends Here.”

The program was sponsored by ConAgra Foods.

Students in the class researched child hunger, explored how various organizations fight child hunger and created their own class plan of action which included creating and implementing their marketing plan.

The class was divided into two groups. The first group targeted high school students and held a food drive, bake sale and root beer float sale the last week of March. Each event went over with great success as both the bake sale and root beer float sale sold out.

The second group targeted Manawa Elementary School and held a bake sale at the elementary school the last week of March. This group spent many hours baking and decorating cupcakes to make sure there was enough food for all 400-plus elementary students.

Altogether the groups gathered over 50 pounds of food and raised $287.08. All the food and money was delivered to the Manawa Area Food Pantry to help those in need.

Through this project the students enhanced their critical thinking skills, enriched their reading and math literacy skills and served their community. But the best part, as one student wrote, was “being able to help people make their lives a little better, and not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.”

Students in the class include Jordan Artz, Jorja Rose Brennan, Kasandra Brennan, Erin Cady, Brady Clary, Austin Dean, Joe Ehlke, Shawn Hoeft, Nick Johnson, Tabitha Nash and Nick Sager Schultz.
