Waupaca girls fall to Xavier

An Eastern Valley Conference championship is not in the cards for the Waupaca girls’ soccer team.

Appleton Xavier made sure of that May 14 with a 4-1 win over the Comets.

Xavier took a 2-0 lead into halftime and went up 3-0 a minute into the second half on Fallon Peplinski’s goal.

Waupaca’s Sierra Patzke put Waupaca on the board three minutes later with an unassisted goal, but the Hawks’ Anna Sobal wrapped up the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 52-minute mark.

Comet goalkeeper Josee Waitrovich finished with 17 saves as Xavier outshot Waupaca 21-7.

The Comets are still waiting to see where they will play their opening game of the WIAA tournament.

Waupaca is in a 16-team Division 2 bracket with Xavier, Berlin, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Ripon and Winneconne out of the EVC, as well as Campbellsport, Denmark, Kewaskum, Luxemburg-Casco, North Fond du Lac/Oakfield, Two Rivers, Waupun and Wrightstown.

The tournament kicks off Thursday, May 30.
