Clintonville hires new principal

The Clintonville School Board voted to hire a new middle school principal and send layoff notices to three teachers May 13.

Both items were discussed in closed session.

Superintendent Tom O’Toole said the board approved the following layoff notices: Dean Muthig, physical education – to 80 percent; Lyle Trautmann, business education/physical education – to 30 percent; and Becky Braun, vocal music – to 80 percent.

The board also voted to hire Sam Santacroce as middle school principal, beginning July 1. Santacroce is presently the middle school principal at Elkhorn, where he has worked for the past three years. Prior to that, he was the middle and high school principal in Gillett for 10 years.

Transportation contract

The board also discussed a proposal from Lamers Bus regarding the district’s transportation contract. Lamers would like the district to extend their current contract, which expires in June 2017.

“It’s difficult for a company to bid that far out,” said board member Ben Huber. “I’d like to see some comparisons with other districts, but if there are no great cost savings with bidding it out again, I would not be opposed to extending the contract. I’d like to see some other numbers since this isn’t pressing right now.”

Board member Jim Dins agreed that extending the contract could be a good idea for the district.

More information will be presented to the board at a future meeting.
