Dear Picture Post,
Last week you had a picture of the Beach Boys when they played at the Casino and asked if anyone could remember when.
Well, I recall the day. I was a young lad about 16-17 years old in 1962-63 and was working at my summer job at the original Dings Dock where Becker Marine is now. I was working in the canoe house in the middle of the afternoon and in walked in these guys and they asked to rent a speed boat for a couple of hours.I replied that we only rent the so-called speed boats by the week and only to families but we do have a 14′ aluminum fishing boat with a 6hp motor on it that we do rent out by the hour. One of them said, “but we’re the Beach Boys!” I looked at my boss and owner, Connie Doerfler, looking for guidance and she said, much to my surprise, “You heard him, we don’t rent that boat by the hour and I don’t care who you are, you’re all a bunch of hoodlums, now get out of here!”…and that was my experience with the Beach Boys! I remember it well.
