Weyauwega-Fremont’s run in the state softball tournament turned out to be short and not very sweet.
The Indians’ season came to an end May 23 with a 5-1 loss to Stevens Point in a Division 3 regional final in Weyauwega.
W-F, which opened tournament play May 21 with an 11-1 win over Montello, was the top-seeded team in its tournament bracket while Pacelli, the defending Division 3 state champion, was seeded third.

A pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
The Indians cut the lead in half with a run in the second on Macey Schoenick’s double that scored Miranda Potratz, but Pacelli came back with three more in the fifth.
The Indians also committed six errors in the game. Schoenick led the Indians with three of the team’s five hits, while Kelsey Akey took the loss on the mound.

Karissa Akey had three hits and drove in five runs for the Indians in a win over the Hilltoppers
Akey held Montello to one hit. Schoenick, Anna Forslin, Kori Looker and Teal Tomaszewski had two of the Indians’ 13 hits.
The Indians finished the season with a 15-10 record.
