Modern Hair Designers celebrates 25 years

Sandy Bruette opened her first hair salon in 1988.

She opened her second location in 1989, and a third in Embarrass in 1990.

She celebrated her 25th business anniversary of Modern Hair Designers in Clintonville on Saturday, May 18. She said she has “come a long way” since the 1980s. It was a ’80s themed event with rolling back of hair cut prices to $5 per haircut for the day. The road was blocked off in front of two of her shops on 9th Street in Clintonville.

Music from the 1980s blared from a tent while, for a minimal fee, there were kids racing to be first down the 28-foot slide. Youngsters enjoyed face painting and throwing their shoes off to have a jumping contest in the bounce house. McGruff the crime dog paid a visit at noon and the children crowded around for pictures and high-fives.

Other enjoyable activities were a photo booth, dunk tank, and a pirate making balloon creatures. The adult highlight of the day was a visit from Elvis Presley himself, Carl Mann from Hortonville, who was available for pictures and rallied the crowd with his traditional colorful jumpsuit and facial sneer.

There was a small petting zoo provided and the community businesses supported the event with free drawings for prizes. The Grand Prize was from Bruette herself, one full year of free haircuts for the lucky winner.

Refreshments were also offered and gave families a minute to relax and listen to the ’80s tunes. Several families remarked that it was a wonderful way to spend a beautiful day.

Bruette wanted the community to know “how much I appreciate each and every one of my clients, for 25 years of friendships and customer service. I hope to continue another 25 years.”
