County ignores town of Union residents

The will of the people disappeared in the courthouse.

Waupaca County overrode the town of Union’s “no” vote and approved the sand mine.

They also ignored recommended conditions and will allow 24-hour a day operation seven days a week.

And how will all the problems associated with this type of mine — blasting, washing, drying, water use, dust, noise, trucking — be controlled?

By complaints? Yes, by complaints.

That was how Ryan Brown, the county’s planning and zoning director, answered the question.

According to the county’s attorney the complaint may involve a zoning violation and then that could be handled by the zoning office.

And then what, we wait till there is a meeting to discuss it?

Well, not to worry. the attorney for Gelhar, the mining company, promised they were good neighbors, their presence will bring prosperity and we can all be happy.
