Confusion, political correctness replaces clarity

You may be old enough to remember the song by Frank Zappa asking the musical question “Who are the brain police?”

We have found out.

Our federal Department of Justice and Department of Education have new “harassment guidelines” for universities to govern acceptable interactions between students or staff members.

These throw out the “reasonable person” standard and allow the most sensitive people in the group to determine what can or can’t be said.

For decades the left has been attempting to control our language and thus our thoughts and behavior.

They have done a good job replacing clarity with confusion or political correctness.

In May, “Washington Post’s” writer Mike Wise decried, “Old Testament moral certainty” and anyone who “trumpeted their bigotry under the guise of religious beliefs.”

Robert Knight says, “When confusion replaces clarity, the devil breaks out the champagne. It’s so much easier to push people to the abyss when the stop signs are edited to say ‘whatever.'”

G.K. Chesterton said, “Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions.”

I say tolerance has become a cudgel used to shut conservatives up and steer the discussion.

I once heard a leftist say, “The one thing I won’t stand for is intolerance.”

George Orwell said, “Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable.”

So we get the term “abortion” replaced by “women’s health.”

Government taxes and spending become “investments.”

Any moral code being based on the Bible is “judgmental” or “bigoted.”

Illegal immigrants become “undocumented citizens.”

Lies become “mistakes.”

Differences between boys and girls are now to be regarded as a “social construct” meaning boys only act differently from girls because they are forced to play with guns and trucks, while girls are forced to play tea party and wear dresses.

At the same time, we are told to believe gays are born gay, and nothing could stop them from growing up gay, or we are bigots.

We must resist assaults on common sense, stand up for what is right and refuse to be cowed by all the name calling from the left.

We must not allow the left to redefine our words, impose speech codes or shut us up.

Stand up, speak out. Choose your own words.
