Robbins, Shirley M.

Shirley M. Robbins, of Waupaca, age 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home.

She was born in Oshkosh on February 25, 1929 to the late Harold and Dorothy (Kuhrt) Nelson. On October 20, 1948 she was united in marriage to Glenn L. Robbins. Together they had five children and raised their family in Rural. He preceded her in death in June 1994. Shirley retired from the Wisconsin Veterans Home in 1990 after working 25 years as the Food Service Supervisor. Upon retirement, she volunteered for 10 years at the Waupaca Nutrition Site. She was a member of the Women’s Gorgonas Club of Rural and served in various positions with the Rural Historical Society. Her hobbies included ceramics, sewing and flower gardening.

She is survived by five children: Lynn (Neil) Rasmussen of Scandinavia; Robin Robbins of Waupaca; Mary (Kevin Will) Robbins of Waupaca; Glenna (Daniel) Peters of Waupaca; and Daniel Robbins of Stevens Point; grandchildren: Richard (Julie) Rasmussen; Tammy (Patrick) Bauer; Ted (Amy) Robbins; Scott Hill; Stephanie (fiance, Scott Graser) Hill; Izzi Mielke; Danielle Peters; Megan (fiance, Trevor Martin) Peters; Bryon, Chris and Danielle Robbins (special friend, Andy Behrent). She is further survived by great grandchildren: Brynn and Bryce Rasmussen; Katelyn and Emily Bauer, Nia and Lauren Robbins, Amara and Kaleb Hill; Makenzy, Conner and Makaily; two brothers, Kermit (Janie) Nelson and Larry (Ginny) Nelson, all of TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Shirley in death were her husband, Glenn; brother, Robert Nelson; great-grandson, Cameron Robbins; niece, Paula Weisbrod; and nephew, Joey Nelson.

A brief funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 6:30 PM at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3 PM until the time of the service. Private burial will take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
