Henning, JoAnne

JoAnne Henning, age 64, of the Town of Union, Waupaca County, passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning, August 3, 2013 alongside family, close friends, and loyal companion Alec, her golden retriever.

JoAnne was born on May 28, 1949 in New London as the daughter of the late Robert and Delores (Koepsel) Thurk. JoAnne’s family moved from Sugar Bush to Symco when she was a young girl and she graduated from Little Wolf High School of Manawa in 1967. On August 9, 1969 JoAnne was united in marriage to Gary Henning at the United Methodist Church in Manawa. JoAnne was employed as an LPN at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King, WI before accepting a position as a custodian with the Manawa School District. She retired in December of 2001 for health reasons. She was a remarkable cook, accomplished seamstress, amazing Mother, and a loving Nana who enjoyed playing horses and making macaroni and cheese for her grandchildren. JoAnne also enjoyed gardening (especially growing tomatoes for juice), nursing unique plants and flowers, hanging out at the Pine Tree Supper Club with family and friends, and relaxing with Gary and her family while camping on the Chippewa Flowage near Hayward, WI.

Survivors include: her husband, Gary; her sons, Clint (Mindy) Henning, Bear Creek; Tim Henning, Casper, WY; her grandchildren, Olivia and Amelia Henning; her sisters: Julie (Paul) Capener, New London and their daughters, Lavilla and Bliss Capener; Jill Thurk, Oshkosh; her brother, Tom Thurk, Sugar Bush; her brother-in-law, Bob Henning, Post Falls, ID and children, Jason (special friend, Dana) and Ava. Also, many other relatives and friends. JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents and sister Janet Thurk.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church in Manawa with Rev. Dale Eggert officiating. Interment will be at the Union Cemetery in Symco. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 AM until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Manawa or to JoAnne’s family.
