The state Department of Transportation will host a meeting for an emergency services and local officials at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, to discuss improvements at State Highway 54 and County Trunk QQ in Waupaca.
The meeting will be held in the council chambers at City Hall.
The purpose of the meeting is to present information about the proposed project, and to coordinate with local units of government to address traffic impacts during construction.
The project will consist of safety improvements due to the high number of rear-end and angle crashes at the intersection.
Improvements will include:
• Designating the State Highway 54 eastbound through lane as an exlusive right-turn lane onto County Trunk QQ by adding an island and extending an existing island.
• Widening the right-turn lane off of State Highway 54 (eastbound) onto County Trunk QQ, which requires replacing an inlet and lengthening storm sewer.
• Replacing existing traffic signal loop detectors and replacing or adding traffic signals.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2014 and is expected to last about two months.
During construction, State Highway 54 and County Trunk QQ will remain open to traffic.
Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations and lane closures with minor delays during peak travel times.
