Weight room receives facelift

Spearheaded by Brad Johnson the weight room at Little Wolf High School has been improved.

“We had a regular crew that we could count on,” said Jeff Bortle, athletic director for the district. “Everyone was strictly volunteers and they came ready to work. They even stayed there until 3 a.m. one morning to get things done.”

Bortle said Bryn Niemuth over-saw the project, and made sure things were down correctly.

“We used to have two rooms that you could not supervise well. Safety was a real issue,” he said. “Now we removed a wall and opened things up so you can see both rooms from one location. We added about 300 square feet. The school district paid for the ‘deconstruction’ while an anonymous donor helped pay for the installment of floor mats, painting the walls and future installation of TVs.”

Bortle added, “The biggest asset is simply having more room. When kids are cramped they are not going to want to work out. More kids are using the facilities now than ever before and they are there busting their tails. Last year we only had a couple fitness classes, but this year we have added four or five more.”

The district is in the process of adding more equipment, Bortle said.

“We are in the process of adding equipment,” he said.

“This fall we plan on watching to see what specifically we need,” he said. “We want to make sure we have the right equipment for the classes that will be using the facilities.”

It’s a nice addition, but it might be awhile before more renovations are done.

“There are always dreams to expand further,” Bortle said, “but the reality is there are limited resources.”
