Reconstruction of West Street underway

The reconstruction of a section of West Street began Wednesday, Nov. 6, after the City Council approved a low bid from MCC Inc. at a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 31.

The section of West Street that is being reconstructed is between Eighth Street and Waupaca Street. The project will include new water mains and storm sewers. “It is not intended that development would occur on this stretch, therefore no water services are being installed,” said City Administrator Lisa Kuss. “We are only installing water mains to loop this section to the south.”

The pipes and gravel will be installed in November; paving, sidewalk, curb and gutter will be installed in May of 2014. The road will be closed to the public all winter.

MCC Inc. had a low bid of $133,318.98. Other bidders included R.J. Immel Excavating ($138,286.92); PTS Contractors ($148,976.77); and DeGroot ($160,632.14).
