Shiocton posts another shutout

There’s no “D” in the words Shiocton football, but there should be.

Just as they have all season, the Chiefs relied on their defense Nov. 8 to post a 32-0 Level 3 playoff win over Iola-Scandinavia in a Division 6 rematch of Central Wisconsin 8 Conference rivals.

Shiocton, which handed the Thunderbirds a 34-8 loss in the third week of the regular season, posted its ninth shutout and improved to 12-0. The Chiefs will take on Hurley at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in a state semifinal at Stiehm Stadium in Schofield, while the T-Birds ended their season at 9-3.

Shiocton had a pair of 100-yard rushers in Jacob Van Asten and Talon Heinemeyer. Each scored in the first quarter as the Chiefs built a 17-0 halftime lead.

Van Asten opened the scoring with an 8-yard run, while Heinemeyer kicked a 22-yard field goals and Van Asten added a 1-yard run.

Heinemeyer capped a four-play, 76-yard drive in the third quarter with a 10-yard TD pass to Patrick Brouillard and capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 76-yard run.

Van Asten and Heinemeyer led the Chiefs with 119 and 109 yards on the ground, respectively. Nick Wavruk needed 25 carries for the T-Birds to gain his team-high 86 yards. Evan Fuhs caught five of Wavruk’s passes for 54 yards, while the Chiefs held the T-Birds’ top receiver, Isaac Lashua, to one catch for 35 yards.

Shiocton outgained I-S 327-100 on the ground, but the T-Birds had a 154-29 advantage through the air.
