Waupaca library hosts holiday movie

The Waupaca Area Public Library will conclude its fall series of First Thursday Films with a free classic holiday movie at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the downstairs meeting rooms.

The movie, starring Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell, is a 1951 comedy based on a Damon Runyon short story. It concerns a wisecracking race track tipster who has only “18 shopping days until Christmas” to pay back $10,000 to a gangland boss.

The movie introduced the popular holiday song, “Silver Bells,” to film audiences of the day.

Dr. Jack Rhodes will introduce the film and lead a brief discussion afterwards. Free popcorn, sodas and theater treats will be provided.
