Truckers lose to Comets

A matchup of two undermanned teams saw the Waupaca Comets earn a 42-33 win over the Truckers on Monday, Dec. 9.

Waupaca benefitted from four forfeits (285, 113, 120, 126), while Clintonville also had four forfeit wins (182, 195, 220, 106). There was a double-forfeit at 132 pounds.

At 160 pounds, Waupaca’s Mitchell Rotta won by pin over Shayne Collar in 4:41.

Chase Jung avenged that loss with a pin over Joe Balicki at 170 pounds in a time of 5:00.

Waupaca’s Alex Gotto answered by pinning Kelvyn Van Laarhoven in 3:50 during the 138-pound match.

Tim Jerabek then beat Waupaca’s Derrick Rotta by an 8-2 score during their match at 145 pounds.

In the last match of the evening, Waupaca’s Ethan Riley pinned Darin Carrigg in 1:29 during their match at 152 pounds.

Viking Invite

The team finished 4th at the Winnebago Lutheran Viking Invite on Saturday, Dec. 14. They accomplished the feat with just seven wrestlers, and Jake Reiter earned his 100th career win during the invitational. Results are as follows:

106 pounds

Cole Cotherman took second place by winning a 9-4 decision and then pinning his next opponent. He was pinned in the championship match by Alex Costello of Campbellsport.

145 pounds

Tim Jerabek took second place by defeating four out of his five opponents. He posted three pins and a 14-9 decision in those matches. He lost in the championship match by a score of 7-1 to Evan Maurer of Kiel.

152 pounds

Darin Carrigg took fifth place, and beat two of his four opponents. Both his wins came by pin in 1:57.

160 pounds

Shayne Collar took second place, posting one pin, a 19-6 major decision and a 6-4 decision. He lost to Spencer Fricke of Manitowoc Lutheran Roncalli by an 8-1 decision.

170 pounds

Chase Jung took fifth place, defeating three of his five opponents. His wins came by injury default, a pin in 1:20, and a pin in 1:21.

182 pounds

Charlie Poppe took first place after defeating all five opponents he faced. He pinned his first three opponents in times of 1:59, 1:18 and 1:52. He won his fourth match via injury default and won the championship match by pinning Kiel’s Aaron Field in 3:59.

195 pounds

Reiter pinned his first opponent in 3:07 and won his second match by injury default. In the championship match, he won a 10-1 major decision over Jordan Blok of Oostburg.
