Hawks snatch win from Bulldogs

Passive play doomed the Bulldog boys’ varsity basketball team in their 38-50 loss at the hands of the Shawano Hawks on Friday, Dec. 13.

The Bulldogs made 11 of 38 shots (28 percent) and made 4 of 14 3-point shots (29 percent). The team sank 10 of 14 free throws (71 percent).

Shawano made 20 of 41 shots (49 percent) and 5 of 11 3-point shots (45 percent) while making 5 of 14 free throws (36 percent).

New London outrebounded Shawano 24-23, but the Hawks used physical play to force 14 turnovers and create eight steals. New London’s defense came up with just one steal and forced only seven turnovers.

Sam Porath scored 10 points to lead New London, while Jacob Pinch added nine. Ryan Wolf tallied five and Hunter Zaddack dropped in four. Ty Barrington scored three, while Nick Thomas and Ryan Krueger scored two each. Alex Thiemer added one point.

“We did not shoot well and they were more physical than us,” said Coach Ken Jagiello. “We did not attack the basket and we played very passive. We must play with more aggression.”
