Iola-Scandinavia’s girls’ basketball team split recent Central Wisconsin 8 Conference games with Shiocton and Stevens Point Pacelli.
The Thunderbirds fell to Shiocton 40-26 Dec. 20 three days after handing Pacelli a 62-25 defeat.
Shiocton 40, I-S 26
SHIOCTON – A 15-1 advantage in the first quarter turned out to be the difference in the game, as both teams scored 25 points the rest of the way.
Shiocton also led 26-9 at halftime and 36-18 heading into the fourth quarter.
Brooke Phillips led the T-Birds with seven points, while Leighten Fischer and Phillips pulled down a team-high six rebounds apiece. Carmen McCarthy scored 11 points to lead Shiocton.
I-S 62, Pacelli 25
IOLA – The Cardinals were no match for the T-Birds, as I-S led 15-9 after one quarter, 30-15 at halftime and 39-18 after three quarters before they outscored Pacelli 23-7 over the final eight minutes.
The T-Birds hit 24 of 69 shots while holding the Cardinals to nine-of-40 from the floor. I-S also rebounded the Cardinals 43-31.
Phillips and Natalie Gauerke led the T-Birds with 17 and 12 points, respectively, while CharAnn Bonikowske had 11 rebounds, Kylie Johnson finished with four assists and Gauerke and Phillips shared the lead in steals with three each.
The T-Birds will host Tigerton at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, before hosting Amherst at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10.
