Waupaca Community Choir begins rehearsals

The Waupaca Community Choir will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Waupaca High School choir room.

The scores will be on sale that evening in the commons/lobby hallway from 6:45-7:30 p.m., with rehearsal from 7:30-9 p.m.

After the initial rehearsal, the choir will rehearse from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Included in the time frame will be at least two weeks of sectional work for men versus women.

This year will be the 51st anniversary of performing major choral works in Waupaca.

The concert weekend will be Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6.

This year, the choir will undertake two works which are new to the choir’s repertoire – Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore and Handel’s Coronation Anthems.

“The Mozart is a stunningly beautiful work which utilizes a SATB quartet. While the work is in Latin, I believe this work to be more accessible than the Requiem. The second work by Handel is in English and is a tip of the hat to the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge,” said Director Dan Wolfgram.

The choruses by Handel have been used at every coronation since the coronation of George II in 1727.

Both scores will be available for purchase for $25. That amount covers the cost of the music and membership dues for participation.

“Don’t miss this, our 51st Anniversary Concert and please pass the invitation to any singers in the area to join your Community Choir. Previous experience is not required. Bring a new friend; we are always seeking energetic new members,” Wolfgram said.
