I-S teachers receive 2.07% increase

The Iola-Scandinavia School Board has negotiated an agreement with teachers for a 2.07 percent increase to base wages.

Effective retroactive to July 1, 2013, the agreement results in a $928.84 annual increase for full-time teachers. The part-time teachers will receive a pro-rated amount.

The board also approved for teachers a $120 supplemental annual wage increase for 2013-14, which will also be pro-rated for part-time teachers.

A discussion on 2013-14 base wages for support staff was tabled.

In other business, the board approved 2013-14 budget revenue and expenditure adjustments, as recommended by the Finance Committee.

Revenue added includes $172,104 in Sparsity Aid (first time the district has qualified for this aid) and a $20,000 Project Innovate grant from Cellcom, for a total of $192,104.

Expenditures approved included: $70,000 for property purchase; $25,000 for tech ed drafting computers; $8,000 for professional development support; $7,000 for backup server replacement; $60,000 for elementary wiring project; and $8,600 to increase fifth-grade staffing.

The total cost of these approved expenditures is $178,600. Other potential expenditures included: $25,000 for building safety upgrades; $50,000 for road construction (adding second access to high school parking lot); and $75,000 for summer projects.
