Moe, Gene R.

Gene R. Moe, age 82, of Iola, formerly of Scandinavia, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Gene was born in Scandinavia, Wisconsin on June 11, 1931, the son of the late Oscar and Hannah (Knutson) Moe. Gene married Marian Andersen on July 18, 1953 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa. She preceded him in death on Oct 22, 2001. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion-Post 14 Iola. Gene had been a truck driver for Dushek Trucking and then had worked as a fork lift driver for the Waupaca Foundry for 22 years. Gene loved trout fishing and watching ball games. He had played baseball for his beloved Scandinavia Vikings for over 20 years and also managed the team for a couple of years. He enjoyed watching all the high school ball games following his children and grandchildren when they were playing. Gene was a big Brewer fan and also followed the Packers and Badgers. Gene loved to travel especially with his wife Marian.

He is survived by his children: Bob (Marsha) Moe of Iola, Dale (Janice) Moe of Iola, David (Patty Lund) Moe of Hortonville, Julie (Bob) Komer of Brooklyn Park, MN, Sally (Emery) Olson of Scandinavia, John (Paula) Moe of Oconto, and a brother, James (Elaine) Moe of King. Gene is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary.

A Funeral Service will be held at Scandinavia Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 with Reverend Mark E. Sabin officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday February 2, 2014 from 1- 5 p.m. at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola and again Monday from 9-9:30 a.m. at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Scandinavia, Wisconsin. Register book and online condolences at www.voiefuneralhome.com.
