WHS students attend choral festival

Five Waupaca High School vocal music students participated in this year’s Dorian Choral/Vocal Music Festival, at Luther College.

Traveling to Decorah, Iowa on Jan. 11-14 with Choral Instructor Dan Wolfgram were Caleb Abrahamson, Isaac Baumgart, James Camann, Luke Harger and Anthony Olmeda.

This year’s festival chorus numbered in excess of 1,200 singers, making it the world’s largest select honor choir.

Seven states and 353 schools were represented at the three-day festival.

Allen R. Hightower is the college’s director of choral activities, conductor of the Nordic Choir and professor of music.

While at Luther College, Waupaca’s five students spent the time in extensive rehearsals preparing for the final concert.

In addition, they had opportunities to sing solos for judges and listen to several concerts from choirs around the country.

“This is a rare opportunity to sing in a choir of this magnitude. We wish we could take more students. It is an experience I am sure that they will never forget,” Wolfgram said.
