Bulldogs dominate Thunder, Vikings

The Bulldog varsity basketball team posted another big win on Tuesday, Feb. 4, beating the Seymour Thunder 53-22.

New London led 11-5 after one quarter and 27-8 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs exploded for 22 points in the third quarter, while holding Seymour to just seven points in the frame. The fourth quarter saw Seymour outscore New London 7-4, but the game was already well out of reach.

Payton Mix led all scorers with 15 points, and Mickey Roland added 12 points. Leah Porath scored six, Lexi Roland, Amber Pethke and Cambria Fitzgerald all scored five, Cassidy Pethke and Gretl Steingraber both scored two and Mercedes Wolfgram added one point.

The Bulldogs made 22 of 42 shots (52 percent) and hit 4 of 9 from beyond the arc (44 percent). The team also made 5 of 7 free throws (71 percent).

New London snared 27 rebounds, tallied 17 assists, recorded 13 steals and turned the ball over 11 times.

New London 52, Denmark 9

The Bulldogs put on another clinic against the Denmark Vikings, allowing just nine points over the course of the game.

New London led 16-4 after one quarter and 29-6 at halftime. Their lead grew to 41-8 after three quarters.

Mickey Roland scored 14 to lead New London, while Lexi Roland added 11. Porath netted 10, Fitzgerald and Mix both scored six, Caitlin Schmidt and Maddie Schroeder both tallied two points, and Wolfgram added one.

New London made 20 of 47 shots (42 percent) and hit 3 of 6 from 3-point range (50 percent). The team also made 9 of 11 free throws (81 percent).

The Bulldogs grabbed 24 rebounds, had 19 assists and 10 steals, and turned the ball over just six times while committing only eight fouls.

The Bulldogs play at home on Friday, Feb. 21. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
