The Waupaca girls’ basketball team is on a late-season roll.
The Comets picked up recent wins over Tomahawk, Berlin and Winneconne.
Waupaca handed Tomahawk a 51-30 defeat Feb. 10, defeated Berlin 34-31 Feb. 7 and picked up a 53-38 win Feb. 4 at Winneconne.
Waupaca 51, Tomahawk 30
WAUPACA – The Comets outscored the Hatchets 12-8 in the first quarter and led 19-15 at halftime. A 10-0 run to start the third quarter helped Waupaca take a 34-22 lead into the fourth quarter and the Comets closed the game by outscoring Tomahawk 17-8 over the final eight minutes.
Josee Waitrovich led the Comets with 16 points, while Jessie Harmon had 14 to lead the Hatchets.
Waupaca 34, Berlin 31
BERLIN – Most of the scoring came in the fourth quarter.
Waupaca led 5-4 after one quarter, 11-9 at halftime and 19-15 after three quarters. Berlin outscored the Comets 16-15 in the fourth quarter and tied the game late, but couldn’t take the lead.
Macie Davidson and Morgan Smith led Waupaca with 10 and nine points, respectively, while Julia Silloway had 13 to lead Berlin.
Waupaca 53, Winneconne 38
WINNECONNE – Smith led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points.
The teams were tied 10-10 heading into the second quarter, but a 17-7 advantage gave Waupaca a 27-17 halftime lead. The Comets also outscored the Wolves 16-12 in the third quarter and 10-9 in the fourth.
Lizzi Hanke had eight points for Waupaca, while Davidson, Waitrovich, Sierra Patzke and Emily Barlow finished with seven each.
Morgan Horn led Winneconne with 10 points.
The Comets will wrap up their nonconference schedule at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Adams-Friendship before returning to Eastern Valley Conference play Tuesday, Feb. 18, at home against Freedom.
