Winter wrong time to vote to extend ski hours

We just heard the news that the ski hours on the Chain could possibly be increased. As part-time taxpaying residents on Round Lake we are wondering how the Chain O’ Lakes Association can hold a meeting and a vote in the middle of the winter when such a large number of residents are not even in Waupaca. This seems very underhanded to me.

The ski hours are fine just as they are. We are interested to know who came up with trying to let this measure slide by in the dead of winter.

Explain to us why extending the ski hours makes sense. The boats pulling the water skiers, tubers and wake boarders create extra waves crashing against our shores and piers. Some of them come too close to our rafts where our children are playing. Extending the hours later in the evening also invites the possibility of more intoxicated boaters.

Most of us look forward to the end of ski hours as the lakes become peaceful once again. If the weekday hours are extended from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. what quiet time remains for the residents?

There has clearly been a lack of research and communication on the part of the Chain O’ Lakes Association. We are asking you to hold off on this vote until summer when a better representation of the residents is present. If these hours are increased during the winter we, too, will join the new ski lake association and transfer our current payment to them.
