Two area teams will face each other in the first round of the WIAA girls’ state basketball tournament.
Iola-Scandinavia received a No. 4 seed in the Division 4 Waupaca Sectional and will host No. 5 Weyauwega-Fremont at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in a subregional matchup.
The teams split a pair of Central Wisconsin 8 Conference games during the regular season. The winner will travel to Amherst to take on the Falcons at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, in a regional semifinal. Amherst received a No. 1 seed a bye in the first round.
Waupaca, New London and Wild Rose also received a first-round bye in divisions 2, 2 and 4, respectively. No. 3 Waupaca will play at No. 2 Hortonville and New London will host No. 4 Antigo or No. 5 Shawano March 7 in regional semifinals, while No. 2 Wild Rose will host No. 3 Pardeeville or No. 6 Princeton/Green Lake.

Ashwaubenon Sectional: No. 5 Clintonville at No. 4 Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Division 4
Waupaca Sectional: No. 7 Manawa at No. 2 Shiocton.

D.C. Everest Sectional (Schofield): No. 8 Gresham at No. 1 Marion; No. 7 Almond-Bancroft at No. 2 Loyal.
Regional finals will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 8, and sectional play will begin Thursday, March 13. The state tournament will wrap up Thursday through Saturday, March 20-22, at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon.
