Bessie M. Jorgensen, age 100, of Stevens Point passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Portage County Health Care Center.
Bessie was born in the Town of Lanark, Portage County on October 3, 1913, the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Bucknell) Hessey. She attended Waupaca and Mosinee High Schools and graduated from Selan’s School of Beauty in Chicago in 1937. She later attended the Virginia Farrel Academy in Detroit where she received her special hair stylist license. For many years she owned and operated beauty salons in Manawa and Waupaca. She was a charter member of the Chain O’ Lakes Hairdresser Association and served as president, secretary and treasurer. She was also involved in state committees. On March 7, 1936, Bessie married Lloyd K. Jorgensen in Chicago and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1981. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Waupaca and was a member and past officer of the Waupaca Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Shrine, and a member of the Stevens Point Eastern Star Chapter.
Bessie is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; a brother, Robert Hessey and three sisters, Gladys Dziak, Thelma Gotchy and Lois Weed.
The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, March 4 at 1 p.m. at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with Reverend Cathy J.N. Weigand, officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery in Waupaca. Visitation will be on Tuesday afternoon from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
